Book Review: Where’s My Teddy?

If your son or daughter loves teddy bears or has a beloved stuffed animal, then Where’s My Teddy, written and illustrated by Jez Alborough is a great choice.

I often find that when a book is written and illustrated by the same person the images are great, but the story suffers. Not the case with Where’s My Teddy. In this large format book Alborough has fluidly blended story and imagery. The green leafy forest pops from the pages and both the bear and Eddie’s expressions are full of life. The fast-paced rhyming text keeps the pages turning.

Eddie lost his teddy named Freddie and is off to the dark forest to find him. Eddie is scared and wants his teddy. But, instead of finding Freddie, he finds a giant stuffed bear who he thinks is Freddie all grown up. Then the forest is filled with the sound of a voice crying out, asking how did my teddy get so small. It’s a giant scary bear and he’s holding Freddie. The giant bear spots his giant stuffed bear, his face lights up with joy and he drops Freddie. Eddie grabs Freddie. The giant bear and Eddie, each clutching his very own teddy, run for home and the safety of bed where they snuggle with their teddies, same and warm.

While this book appears to be written for pre-schoolers, it also has staying power. Children in the early grades will catch the nuances of expression that they may have missed when they were younger and laugh along with their younger brothers and sisters as this story is read aloud.

Red and White Stripe Long Johns

We’ve been in business for four years now and every holiday season we get urgent requests at the last minute for footy pajamas for the entire family.

It seems there are many of you out there who have a holiday tradition of dressing everyone from the baby to mom and dad in new pajamas on Christmas Eve. And, many of you insist on footed pajamas.

If your family shares this tradition or something like it, we’d love to hear about it. And if you send us a photo of your family, we’ll post it here to the blog! Have a cozy holiday season!

Buying Tips: Newborn Babies

Jan 13, 2008

As the parents of a 4-year-old, and the aunt and uncle of more than 20 nieces and nephews, we’ve had a bit of experience buying baby, toddler and kids’ clothing, for personal use and for gifts.

We’ve put that hard-earned experience to work in choosing the brands that we carry here at Footy Pajamas LLC. In the next few weeks, we’ll tell you about our lessons learned and why we’ve chosen the brands that we have. If you have any buying tips or recommendations for products we should add, just let us know. We’ll post your thoughts in an upcoming blog.

Under The Nile Flowers & Butterflies Union SuitIn this first installment, we’ll talk a little about rompers and other products for newborns.

Over the years, we’ve bought lots of gifts for our nieces and nephews. And we’ve watched those same clothes get passed from family to family. Some wore out before the first child had outgrown them. Others are still going strong. Quality and care are what made the difference.

And we’ll admit it, we went overboard when our daughter was first born. We were given a lot of things for older babies, but not much for a newborn. So, we shopped (OK, Kim shopped). We bought way too many onesies and not enough swaddle blankets. We overdid the sleepsacks and bought polyester clothes (and tore off the tags and washed them) before we knew our daughter had eczema. Some of our choices were great, others just OK. We had fun and our daughter looked adorable.

Read on for a few things we’ve learned from experience:
